Amnesty Urges Government…Time is Off To Stop Pregnant Girls

A s the band on pregnant girls to attend school continues, Amnesty International has urged the government to end the band. Speaking at a press conference yesterday Tuesday 7 th November 2016   at the New Brookfield Hotel, Alioune Tine, Amnesty International’s Regional Director for West and Central Africa said time is off to stop and end pregnant girls from attending school and to step up to protect young school girls.     He said “The prohibition on visibly pregnant girls attending mainstream schools and taking exams is hopelessly misguided, and is doing nothing to address the root causes of Sierra Leone’s high teenage pregnancy rate, which surged during the devastating Ebola crisis, and remain high despite this ban” He spoke about some of the moved they have made such as meeting of Parliamentarians, Education Ministry and the justice minister, among others. CID TO INVESTIGATE NASSIT

By Abdulrahman Koroma Joseph Mans Jr., Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) on Tuesday 8 th   November 2016 described the 42 million news scam on his institution as baseless and untrue. While addressing Newsmen at the NASSIT Conference Hall in Freetown, Joseph Mans stated that on September 19 th   this year, Gibrilla Kamara, a cashier at NASSIT was accused of defrauding the institution 18 million Leones. He further stated that the internal report discovered that the fraudulent act was done by the cashier alone and that he was stationed at their Western Region Office in Freetown. “The matter has not been reported to the police because our internal investigating team was looking at the matter and we will provide our investigation report to help the police with their investigation” he asserted.   He briefed that the Anti Corruption Commission has not formally expressed interest on the matter and that the local tabloid did not contact

GRAMMAR SCHOOL LAUNCHES HISTORY BOOK

S ierra Leone Grammar School,   the oldest Secondary School in the country last Saturday launched its first school history book at the British Council Hall in Freetown. In a launching ceremony that was well attended by current and past students of the school, Arnold Bishop Gooding, who launched the book noted that it is an attempt by the author to trace the root of a true Regentonian and that the book figure out the true identity of a Regentonian. “Trace the Identity of a man and you will know a man. Trace the Identity of Regentonians and you will know the greatness of Regentonians” he averred. He urged the audience to buy and read the book and make sure they keep some in their Libraries for future use. He described the book as the first school history book and that other schools will soon follow their footsteps in doing the same but his school always takes the lead. Professor C.
