Joseph Mans Jr., Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) on Tuesday 8th November 2016 described the 42 million news scam on his institution as baseless and untrue.
While addressing Newsmen at the NASSIT Conference Hall in Freetown, Joseph Mans stated that on September 19th this year, Gibrilla Kamara, a cashier at NASSIT was accused of defrauding the institution 18 million Leones.
He further stated that the internal report discovered that the fraudulent act was done by the cashier alone and that he was stationed at their Western Region Office in Freetown.
“The matter has not been reported to the police because our internal investigating team was looking at the matter and we will provide our investigation report to help the police with their investigation” he asserted.  He briefed that the Anti Corruption Commission has not formally expressed interest on the matter and that the local tabloid did not contact their institution to hear their own side of the story as professionalism demands.
He encouraged the general public to always have trust in their institution and that his administration will always uphold the core values of transparency and decency in providing good service to the public.
He pointed out that the institution has a contributed income of 100 billion Leones in 2010 and 135 billion Leones in 2011, adding that in 2012 and 2013 NASSIT increased it contribution to 196 and 225.5 billion Leones respectively.
