China Prioritises Major Projects For Sierra Leone

Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, WANG Xinmin has disclosed to news men that their major projects in Sierra Leone are education, Agriculture, Military Aid Grants to RSLAF, Foreign Service Academy, Fish Harbour and National Fire Backbone phase two.
WANG Xinmin was speaking to the press at the embassy premises on Wednesday 27th March 2019.
WANG Xinmin said in 2018, more than 1300 Sierra Leoneans went to China for various training programmes with the sponsorship of Chinese government; more than 100 Sierra Leoneans students furthered their study in China through Government Scholarship programme.
This year he said, the programme is in process with a growing number of applicants.
On the side of Agriculture which is one of the top priorities under the New Direction agenda, WANG Xinmin said China as a great agricultural country is willing to share its experience and strengthen cooperation with Sierra Leone in agriculture development while actively studying agricultural cooperation projects in an ‘investment plus aid” model.
He pointed out that with a view to further develop the friendly relations between the armed forces of China and Sierra Leone, the Chinese Ministry of Defence decided to provide 50 million RMB Yuan military aid gratis to RSLAF.
The aid he said will be utilized for the refurbishment of Military officers’ quarters, mess and so on. At present the project is being actively pushed forward by both parties.
He also spoke about the career diplomats training for Sierra Leone government, the gratuitous assistance of 200 Million Yuan to explore and implement the Fish Harbour Project and the national Fiber backbone phase two project.
The press conference also featured the introduction to the China Two Sessions (Parliaments in China) meeting which ended earlier this month and the recent major cooperation plan between China and Sierra Leone and an exhibition on the achievement of China’s opening up and reform policy.
