By Mohamed Jaiah
All 19 aspirants for the flagbearership of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have been nominated and declared eligible to be voted for as Presidential Candidate in the forthcoming National Delegate Convention slated for Sunday 31st of July, 2011.

Among the 19 candidates, Andrew Keili as if by divine providence was the first aspirant who fulfilled the nomination process set up by the Electoral Board. This was due to the fact that the first three aspirants who were called upon were not prepared to present their nomination forms.
Another prophetic incident was that Andrew Keili who was sitting fourth in the row of aspirants, when called for the nomination was allotted the number four box among the nineteen multiple boxes which are to be used for the convention.
Addressing the aspirants at the Sierra Leone People’s Party headquarters on Monday 24th July 2011, the Chief Electoral Commissioner the former Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Alie Bangura explained the Modus Operandi of the multiple box system and the reason for adopting it.
The Chief Commissioner said that among the 19 aspirants only one expressed doubts about the multiple boxes and since then that has been addressed by the party. He said that the SLPP respects every member’s view since the party is a family. He however said that there are certain guidelines put in place which the nominees should follow.
The guidelines which includes a 10 points rule was read out by Dr. Philip Kanu who is also a member of the Electoral Board. The nomination process was well organized and impressive as all 19 aspirants were united and sharing fun to each other. They demonstrated high level of democracy as some aspirants joined others to witness their nominations. All 19 nominees were numbered one to nineteen.
These numbers will form part of their symbols on their boxes and voters slip. Together with the numbers on the boxes will be photographs of the candidates that are to be voted for.
Andrew Keili, while transversing the country assured his people of quality leadership and promised to redeem this nation from this backward state we are.
In an interview , Hon. Robin Edward Farley who nominated Andrew Keili, said that he believes strongly in the Andrew Keili’s Presidential prowess because Mr. Keili is a unifier, a man who is forthright and has excellently served this nation in different capacities. Hon. Farley who is one of the pioneers in the Andrew Keili campaign team said he has no doubt that Andrew Keili will win the flagbearership and ultimately defeat President Ernest Bai Koroma in the 2012 Presidential elections.
The nominations for the other positions in the party’s National Executive was also done on Tuesday 25th July, 2011. The nominees are also expected to be voted for at the coming National Delegates Conference. They will take over the party affairs at national level.
