APC MINISTER EMBARRASSED AT INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATIONS

What should have been a morale booster for the country turned out to be a disappointment especially the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Tamba Bobor Sawyer.

The Deputy Minister who served as the Keynote speaker at the West African Health Organisation’s (WAHO) 24th anniversary celebration waited for over an hour waiting for the programme to kick off.
The minister though visibly agitated, waited patiently until he was given the microphone to officially launch the celebration. It was then that he lambasted the organizers.
“I am not impressed with the way things happen here. We all aware of what is happening in the Health sector especially on the Free Health Care service,” he said.
The first statement of the deputy Minister made his audience pay more attention to him. The deputy minister went on to say since he was appointed as deputy Minister of that ministry over five events he had attended had turned out to be not only a disappointment but a disaster.
He said the message sent by the organizers in not respecting time is not in line with the President’s Agenda for change.” I collected a container of drugs at Wellington from a Non Governmental Organisation the message sent by Sierra Leoneans was not good to the outside world,” he said.
“Today’s event is not an exception. I waited for an hour for the programme to start. We are good at talking but we are not good in organizing,” he said.
The deputy Minister went on to say that such events of that nature with top diplomats should be properly organized, timely and be made to capture the attention of all sectors but he was sad to see that out of the hundreds of people invited only few were in attendance.
With these strong words most people in the audience thought the minister would have rested his case but came down heavily again. “Somebody has to take responsibility for all these lapses,” he said.
He added “The message for the executive is that the honeymoon is over. Change must be made not only in the health sector but all over the country. As the saying goes “usai u tie cow na dae ee go eat grass”, the cow should not be made to eat in such a way that grass will never again grow where the cow had eaten. We have to work together for the betterment of the country so when we die our record will speak for us,” he said.
The Chairman of the programme who happened to be the organizer of the event Dr. Samuel Kargbo pleaded to the minister to forgive him “ Sir whoever eats pepper and salt forget things. To handle events like these single handedly is not easy,” he said.
The remarks by the deputy Minister was welcomed by his audience as some of them, like the minister, had also waited for long hours before the event kicked off. “If only we want to see changes in this country we must respect time at all time. The organizers failed to realize that time for some of us is important,” said Saddiatu Conteh.
Some of them were fully convinced that the poor turnout was as a result of poor planning. “We want prompt response in the health sector and whatever they are doing should be prompt because they area dealing with the lives of the people of this our beloved country,” said John Sesay from civil society.
