Journalist Appointed Commissioner For Oaths

Managing Editor of the New Citizen Newspaper Samuel B. Conteh has been appointed as Commissioner for Oaths.


Samuel B. Conteh was among about 50 others throughout the country that were sworn into office yesterday by the Honorable Chief Justice at her Chamber.
A letter of appointment written by the Master and Register Elwyn Bailor reads 'I have the honour to inform you that it has pleased the Honorable Chief Justice to appoint you as Commissioner for Oaths. A fee of Five Thousand Leones is payable as Oath fee before you are sworn…'
The new appointment give him the legal mandate to prepare legal documents, witness passports, birth certificates, affidavits among others.
The appointment of Mr. Conteh marks another milestones for journalists in the country as such position was not easily given to journalists. In a snap interview with Mr. Conteh at the Law Court building just after his swearing in, he described the responsibility with a sense of humility.
He promised to build a strong relationship with the three branches of government with the help of other Commissioners.
He said his appointment is also a test of time for journalists in the country as he put it "if I set a good example I might set the pace for other Journalists but I do not then it will be too bad for the profession." He how ever promised to live up to expectations so that other Journalists will serve in that capacity when he would have left.
With wealth of experience the New Citizen Newspaper Samuel B. Conteh Managing Editor started his career as a teacher at the Kissy Primary school in Freetown before he proceeded as sales man at the Forest Industries in Kenema City and journalist among others. He also received training from various institutions such as Minton Margai College of Education and Technology, Coady International Institute of St. Francis Xavier University in Canada and the ACCOSCA Training Centre in Kenya. Apart from being a Journalist he is also an Accountant.
