JOURNALISTS AND IRANIAN CULTURAL CONSULATE OBSERVE IFTER NIGHT

The Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation (SL) Branch in collaboration with the Cultural Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sierra Leone on Monday 8th August 2011 engaged over 30 journalists drawn from both print and electronic media at Cultural Centre Office, Howe Street in Freetown.

Speaking at the programme the Iranian Cultural Chancellor, Mohamed G. Sofla stated that the purpose of Iftar is to bring practicing Muslim journalists together and break fast wherein discussion and sharing of Islamic ideas will be of topic.
He stated that 8th of August is observed in Iran as reporter’s day. He explained the reason behind the observation of the day. He pointed out that as a result of the good relation his Centre have with journalists he therefore decided to observe it.
He pointed out that the work of journalists is significant and explained the challenges, constraints involve in searching for news. He also cited their commitment in national development and the impact journalists creat in the society and the world at large.
He paid special thanks to all for their prompt response towards their calls and emphasised that their pay is kept in heaven.
In his short statement, the vice president of Sierra Leone Association of Journalists(SLAJ) Sheik Bawoh thanked the Cultural Chancellor for bringing journalists together. He stated that there is blessing behind Muslim brothers and sisters coming to gether in the month of Ramadan. He noted that there is peace and joy attached to it.
Another speaker who made statement was Mariama Sesay, Financial Secretary of SLAJ.
Recitations of the Holy Quran by Abdul Karim from the Centre and distribution of Islamic books climaxed the programme.
