Operation Push Back Exposes Mayor's Lies

Over a week after the Mayor of Freetown City Council Herbert George Williams launched 'Operation Push Back' nothing has been happening to rid the city of street trading.

The operation has only resolved the determination of the traders stronger than before. This has made Freetonians come down very heavily on the Mayor, to the extent that some have referred to him as weak.
"We are frustrated with the Mayor's launching of one operation and another," said Foday Bundu of Kissy Road.
The rampant street trading is causing a serious embarrassment to the country. Traders are at the door steps of Law Court Building and State House making the issue street trading worst and putting the country in disrepute.
"The operation will only waste the time it was launched. As I am tired of the Mayor sitting in his office talking politics. What do you think the outcome should be?" Musa Foday asked.
Some traders SALONE TIMES spoke to, said they refused to adhere to the call of Mayor Williams because they have never believed in what he is saying just because he very often goes back on his words.
"My brother, we are not happy to be in this hot burning sun but the Mayor failed to accomplish his project," he said.
Some traders are of the view that Mayor Williams wanted to use the operation as part of his campaign strategy for his second term. "Did you remember when he threatened to impose a fine of Le100,000 on any one caught littering the streets . At that time he was acting but we thought he will be the best Mayor but now he turned out to be the worst," Sorie Conteh a trader at Rawdon Street said.
What is now in the minds of Freetonians is what will be the fate of them as they are approaching the festive seasons.
This time they want to attract tourists and holiday makers.
