New X-Ray Machine For Koidu Hospital
Kono which is regarded as the bread basket of Sierra Leone since the discovery of diamonds in the District in the 1930s does not seem to have benefitted from this natural endowment.
Many companies have come and gone without any clear legacy, all what they left is a destroyed land. It is against this backdrop that a daughter of the soil has come home to change the history of the district in a positive way.
The New Citizen in Kono recently met this productive daughter of the soil, Madam Sia Jarieu B, Morsay, who left the soil of Sierra Leone some 24 years ago for abroad and has decided to come home.
According to Madam Morsay, whilst in American, she provided scholarships to over 400 school going children whose parents could not afford to pay their school fees. Most of the scholarships awarded were for the girl child within the Kono District. She also made donations of laptops, tape recorders to six media houses in Kono, plasma TV with a generator to the diamond petty traders also known as ‘nyikor-nyikor’ and to various groups, including women’s networks.
She informed The New Citizen that upon visiting the Koidu Government Hospital, she personally decided to offer a modern Xr-ay machine and other surgical instruments to the hospital so that the community will no longer go to other districts for an X-ray test.
Madam Morsay, who attended various colleges and institutions in the United States of America, attained a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the Kaplan University and later attended the America School of Jewelry and the Institute of Diamond Cutting and Polishing Inc.
She has been in the diamond business for some three (3) years now, which prompted her to come home to not only invest, but also help in sharing her experience to her brothers and sisters in the diamond sector in Sierra Leone.
She further informed that she has contacted the Mines Ministry and has been issued with a Dealers license in Freetown, which gives her the right to legally buy and sell diamonds.
Madam Sia Morsay laid emphasis on helping the children by upgrading the educational status in the district, “I want to see a lot of Kono children become Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Ministers” etc.
Komba Manso, alias ‘Konomansa’, former Kono District Diamond and Gold Dealers Chairman confirmed to this medium that Madam Sia Jarieu B. Morsay has registered with various groups within the District and she recently donated scholarships to over 400 pupils within the entire District and appealed to other well meaning Konos to emulate the good example of Madam Sia Morsay.
Tamba Musa, a native of Kono District told the New Citizen that this is the first time in the history of Kono a woman has expressed intent to serve as Chairman in the diamond sector in Kono stating that after going through her profile, he strongly believed that she can make a difference in Kono District.
