Parents Want Missing Homosexual Son Dead
Mr. and Mrs. Ade
and Judith (parents) are frantically looking out for their son, Christian
Smith, who since he left home on 15th March 2015, has not been seen and are
afraid that he might have been assaulted for openly declaring that he is a
homosexual.
What has
compounded Christian Smith’s predicament is that his parents, who are pious
Christians and hold senior positions in the church, want him dead for bringing
disgrace to the family for which they are offering prayers and fasting for God to
eliminate him from the face of the earth.
Infact, according
to family sources, his father caught him pants down while having fun with a boy
and according to tradition, his only punishment is death.Christian Smith’s
disappearance has been reported to the police who have launched a manhunt for
him all over the country without success.
In addition,
announcements have been made on radio, TV and newspapers (with his picture
displayed) for members of the public to help locate his whereabouts but to no
avail.
Christian Smith’s
dilemma started in March this year when he publicly declared that he is a
homosexual that is an abomination in the country.
Like many other
anti-social vices, homosexuality, same sex marriage, gay, lesbianism and other
Western cultural practices are a taboo, foreign and imported into Sierra Leone
from the developed world for which they are frowned at and are illegal.
Some people are
even alleging that money is dished out to NGOs and Civil Society Organizations to
advocate and campaign for the legalization of homosexuality, same sex marriage,
gay, lesbianism and other Western cultural practices in Sierra Leone as is the
case with the clarion call for the banning of the widely-practiced Female
Genital Mutilation (FGM), one of the country’s age-old cultural traditions.
Only a few Sierra
Leoneans, mostly those who have lived abroad or have close relationships with
foreigners, are homosexuals and they operate underground for fear that they
might be hounded, provoked or even assaulted and killed.
Homosexuals are
mainly found along the Lumley, Aberdeen and other beach areas, resorts and
entertainment centers frequented by foreigners. Most of them are in Freetown
with a few in the provinces.
Some NGOs have
organized protests and campaigns for the legalization of homosexuality but this
has not been achieved so far as it is considered an alien culture that must not
be encouraged and must be nipped in the bud.
People, including
relatives and friends of homosexuals, distance themselves from such people as
they are afraid and ashamed to associate with them.
In Sierra Leone,
homosexuals only associate with themselves.
Now that the
National Constitution is been reviewed by the Constitutional Review Committee,
some citizens, Civil Society Organizations and NGOs hold the view that this is
the appropriate time to advocate for the legalization of homosexuality, same
sex marriage, gay, lesbianism and other Western cultural practices that are all
illegal in the country.
