GENTO SETS ANOTHER DEADLINE FOR JOMO KENYATTA ROAD
As GENTO GROUP
failed to meet the deadline that by the end of April, the Company would have
completed the Jomo Kenyatta Road, the Group has given another deadline to
complete the tarring of that road.
GENTO GROUP
earlier stated that they would complete the Jomo Kenyatta/King Harman Road
junction by April ending.
Giving reasons
for not meeting their deadline, GENTO GROUP Director, Mohamed Gento Kamara told
the Press that just after they made the declaration to complete the tarring of
that road by April ending, the government asked them to construct a foot bridge
along New England Ville junction which he said stalled their timetable for two
weeks as they need to draw the plan for that foot bridge and also start the
construction.
He explained
that the foot bridge foundation is 16 feet deep.
“We started it
from the foundation and that reversed us for two weeks,” he said.
He described the
move by the government as wise one, if one considers the number of pedestrians
that are using that route on a daily basis.
GENTO GROUP was
first name Fimet Beton-Villa SL Ltd due to the inclusion of other companies.
Pedestrians and motorists in Freetown expressed
concern over the very slow pace at which the Jomo Kenyatta, Hill Cot and Hill
Station Roads are being reconstructed by GENTO GROUP Construction Company. But
the Director said they are within the time frame.
He cited the Hill Station road which he said they
will soon finish the tarring and other side works.
“The deadline for the Hill Station road is November
this year but now we are almost at the end of that work.”
Mohamed Gento Kamara appeal to road users to
exercise patience with them as they want to do long lasting job.
GENTO GROUP was awarded another contract to
construct the Waterloo township roads a work which has been welcomed by
residents of that community.
