They Can’t Recite The National Pledge

Hahahahaha, oh sweet Salone hahahahaha! Folks, Hope you are feeling it just like TRACE; the drama is unfolding in the country. TRACE was on the verge to go on vacation because of the constant embarrassment the current government is putting her citizens through, but this one made TRACE to come back because it is more than Nigerian movies.

So there are people in our land that can’t recite the country’s national pledge.

Before Easter TRACE was looking at Pay day in the government and TRACE was so happy to see women gaining more positions in governance than their male counterparts because some of the men folks have failed the nation and her people, but what TRACE has begun to see is nothing short of embarrassment.

The drama in Sierra Leone Parliament on appointment made TRACE to think that there are people in this land that are not sincere to themselves not to talk about the nation.

The situation has made TRACE to call on all those that are in authority for special class. TRACE will take you back to primary school and we are going to teach you the National Pledge first followed by the National Anthem, if not TRACE will ask you out of your office by force.

After this teaching, TRACE will give you a homework and later you will take your test and exam.

No wonder most of the leaders Sierra Leone  be they Presidents, Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Directors, Chief Executive Officers and deputies can’t serve the nation at heart. Most of them only think about self, self and self. Instead of the nation and the people they are serving. It is not a surprise to see some of them ending in misery. The people they should be serving turn to be a servants.

Now for TRACE teaching, repeat after TRACE

National Pledge

TRACE: I pledge my love and loyalty to my country Sierra Leone;

Pupils: …………………………………………………………………..

TRACE: I vow to serve her faithfully at all times;

Pupils: …………………………………………………………………..

TRACE: I promise to defend her honour and good name;

Pupils

TRACE: Always work for her unity,  peace, freedom and prosperity;

Pupils: …………………………………………………………………...

TRACE: And put her interest above all else.

Pupils: …………………………………………………………………..

TRACE: So help me God

Pupils: …………………………………………………………………...

TRACE: So help me God

Pupils: ………………………………………………………………..

Good one, clap for yourself …

Now TRACE is going to ensure that anybody that want to govern this nation MUST know the National Pledge and the National Anthem by heart or else, they will not be given any position.

Pupils how do you see that…

Pupils: Hurray

Good one, clap for yourself …

Before we go to the National Anthem let TRACE give you a brief history of it.

The anthem was written by Clifford Nelson Fyle and composed by John Akar. It was adopted as the national anthem in 1961 when the country became independent replacing God Save The Queen. The Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991, makes it the responsibility of every citizen of Sierra Leone to “respect its ideals and its institutions” including the national anthem. Now for the National Anthem

TRACE: High we exalt thee, realm of the free;

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: Great is the love we have for thee;

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: Firmly united ever we stand,

TRACE: Singing thy praise, O native land.

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: We raise up our hearts and our voices on high,

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: The hills and the valleys re-echo our cry;

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: Blessing and peace be ever thine own,

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: Land that we love, our Sierra Leone.

Pupils: …………………………………………….

This is the first stanza of the National Anthem

Let’s go for the second stanza

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: That blessing and peace may descend on us all;

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: So may we serve thee ever alone,

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: Land that we love, our Sierra Leone.

Pupils: …………………………………………….

Pupils we are now going for the third stanza

TRACE: Knowledge and truth our forefathers spread,

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: Mighty the nations whom they led;

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: Mighty they made thee, so too may we

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: Show forth the good that is ever in thee.

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: We pledge our devotion, our strength and our might,

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: Thy cause to defend and to stand for thy right;

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: All that we have be ever thine own,

Pupils: …………………………………………….

TRACE: Land that we love, our Sierra Leone.

Wow! Excellent pupils, clap for yourself…

I hope you will do it as your homework. Next week you will take your test followed by your exam in your different offices and the result will be announced.

With this teaching, the public will know whether you have the nation at heart or not. TRACE is pleading to you all to take your academic work seriously and by that you will not present or say things you don’t have paper for. Above all you will serve the people you are call to serve with all our heart, minds and strength.

Thank you for attending today’s class, see you next week.

Pupils: thank you teacher TRACE…
