Over Lesbian Life Style… Asiatu Sankoh Goes Into Hiding For Stigmatization

Asiatu Sankoh has being reported of being a Lesbian is afraid to return to the country because of stigmatization from her family and the community.
Asiatu Sankoh a victim of stigmatization
Like many other anti-social vices, lesbianism, homosexuality, same sex marriage, gay and other western cultural practices are taboo, foreign and imported into Sierra Leone from the developed world for which they are frowned at and are illegal.
Mr and Mrs Sankoh have condemned the act of their daughter and demanded for her death or never to see her.
According to Pa Sankoh he said they are devoted Muslims and they hold Senior Positions in the Mosque which they his members of the Mosque and the community is looking forward to them as examples.
“This is a big disgrace to the family. We can’t have such daughter and we will never have one.  We want her dead for bringing disgrace to the family,”
Pa. Sankoh went on to say that they are fasting and offering prayers for God to eliminate her from the face of the earth because of what she has done.
Stigmatization is the order of the day in this part of the country, once you are discovered of being a lesbian, homosexual, same sex marriage among others.
The parents and the community only knew about Asiatu Sankoh lesbian nature when she left the country.

Of recent time, some people including the religious body are alleging that money is dished out to NGOs and Civil Society Organizations to advocate and campaign for the legalization of homosexuality, same sex marriage, lesbianism and other Western cultural practices in the country as in the case with the clarion call for the banning of the widely-practiced Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), one of the country’s age-old cultural traditions.
Only few Sierra Leoneans, mostly those who have lived abroad or have close relationships with foreigners, are practising such but they operate underground fear that they might be hounded, provoked or even assaulted and killed.
People, including relatives and friends of Lesbians or gay distance themselves from such people as they are afraid and ashamed to associate with them Asiatu Sankoh case is no exception.
Some NGOs have organized protests and campaigns for the legalization of homosexuality but this has not been achieved so far as it is considered an alien culture that must not be encouraged and must be nipped in the bud. In Sierra Leone Lesbians or gay only associate with themselves, because of the stigmatization they are facing.
Currently the National Constitution is been reviewed by the Constitutional Review Committee, some citizens, Civil Society Organizations and NGOs hold the view that this is the appropriate time to advocate for the legalization of homosexuality, same sex marriage, gay, lesbianism and other western cultural practices that are all illegal in the country.
