AIRadio Ends One Month Intensive Training
Staff and intern students of Africa Independent Radio
(AIRadio) have ended a month of intensive training. The training which
commenced on Monday 21st November ended over the weekend at a colorful ceremony
at AIRadio Office at Wilberforce.
The training brought
together over twenty presenters, producers, reporters, DJs and intern students.
Station Manager of
AIRadio, John Konteh thanked the BBC Media trainer Kelvin Lamdo for accepting
to their request at a very short notice. He gave a five minute talk on rules
for everyday life which emulated from a story he explained about a man that was
trying to cut a tree.
According to him if
they would have asked for two weeks training, it would have been short and they
would have missed many things but the one month have created lot of impact to
their staff.
“What we have done is
that, the month training is to broadcast very well as broadcast journalists.
Everyone committed themselves to the training everyday”
He stressed that the
training was not meant for them to compete but to make themselves better. He
thanked Africell MD Sahdi Al-Gerjawi for creating the platform.
Africell Managing
Director and also Africa Media that owned AIRadioSahdi Al-Gerjawi explained how
they started broadcasting which he said started from the Gambia where he was MD
for eight years ago.
He congratulated the
staff for the restless move they took for such training.
According to the MD,
the day one stops trying, is the day one starts dying. He said short training
is close to their heart, as he was planning to train 50% of Africell staff
before the ebola struck the nation.
“I like to see the
BBC style of reporting in AIRadio. We can be the best locally.”
He encouraged them to
make sure they challenge themselves and do enough research, planning and
analyzing.
“We don’t take extra
advert; I will be very impressed seeing you working at the BBC not a radio that
will bring you down.”
The MD also gave
encouraging words to the staff that they can be successful at anything, reach
and make money at anywhere.
BBC tutor Kelvin
Lamin Lando spoke about the month training and the commitment AIRadio staff
gave. He encouraged them to keep on the good work as they are evaluated for
what they are doing and how the public want to feel what they have learnt in
from the month training.
Frankvin Bob McEwen
spoke on behalf of the male beneficiaries on the impact of the training to them
while Mary Grace Turay spoke on behalf of the ladies. The participants
explained to this medium about some of the things they have more knowledge on
such as the Independent Media Code on radio broadcasting, pronunciations, packaging
techniques and jingle among others.
The ceremony was climaxed
with the distribution of certificate to participants.
