Children Of Deceased Ebola Medical Workers Receive Focem’s Scholarship Package

Children of deceased Ebola medical workers on Thursday 12th January receive their scholarship package from the Foundation for Children of Ebola Affected Medical Workers (FOCEM) at the One World Link Bo Town.

This is in line with FOCEM contribution to ease the stress on some parents and guardians that are taking care of them.
In her brief statement, one of the parent’s Madam Marian Nunie suggested  that FOCEM organize an event that will bring them together, at list once a year for them to know each other and share ideas as FOCEM is not only operate in Bo.
She also appealed to FOCEM Board of Trustees to think about those that are left out of the program.
FOCEM National Program Administrator, Sheku Adnrew Coomber told his audience that FOCEM is specifically focused on meeting the educational needs of the children left behind by EVD related deceased health care workers.
He extended greetings from the Board of Trustees and their partners. Situation, he said is a bit difficult but they as an organization are encouraging the children to take their education seriously.
He called on the parents and guardians to take good care of the children. He stressed for oneness as a group for them to continue their love and concern for each other.
He described Bo chapter as the lead example as compare to other areas they are operating.

He said the Board would have loved to be with them at the presentation but due to their busy schedule they could not make it.

FOCEM he disclosed is working in six districts in the country but if one fails to take his or her education seriously, FOCEM will replace that child.
“The simple merits for one to get such fund are: the person is affected and he or she is doing well in school.”
He warned some of the parents who are in the habits of not showing the result of the children to desist from that.
Coomber disclosed that there are plans on the pipeline to increase the number of  children as they have being doing.
Bo, he said they started with 16 children but now they have 21 children.
“FOCEM is non-political and non-religious and its remit extends to all areas of Sierra Leone. We are encouraging others to come; our membership is open to all.”
He stressed that the deceased health care workers children that are benefiting from the package includes Medical Doctors, Nurses, Laboratory Technicians and Cleaners among others.
He noted that, they are only concerned for the children whose parents lost their lives during the cause of their duties not those that are not affected.
“The only way we can save the situation is to help the children and that will make them achieve their goals which will go a long way for them.”
Coomber disclosed that the Foundation will look after these children till they complete their university education.
He called on other organization to give their support to FOCEM as they dream of supporting more children.
Parents and guardians expressed their thanks and appreciation to FOCEM for their timely support to them.
