Over Missing 707 Million…“SYLVIA IS CROOKED AND CORRUPT”

Director of Children Affairs at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Madam Buya Kamara has described her Minister, Sylvia Blyden as “crooked and corrupt”

She made this statement while explaining to the Parliamentary Committee on Social Service about the missing 707 Million Leones last Wednesday 1st February 2017.
She revealed that UNICEF has stopped funding the ministry because they failed to account for the Le 707M which was given to the ministry for children’s activities in 2016.
“The Ministry is losing fund because of the attitude of the present minister,” Director Buya Kamara maintained.
The permanent Secretary in the Ministry Osman Kanu appealed to the committee that the information which the chairman requested will be presented to the Committee in the next adjourned date.
Kanu told the committee that the ministry is faced with a lot of challenges in terms of finance as they have not been receiving funds for fuel for the past one year.
Permanent Secretary Kanu pointed out to the committee that the Le707M mentioned above is not to his notice in the ministry.
He added that he did not know when the money came to the ministry as he was not informed about the money but it was of late they found out that the money was sent to CDC account.
 He revealed that there is a serious confusion between the Minister of Social Welfare Sylvia Blyden who is called Lady Gaga and her Deputy Minister Rugiatu Nenneh Turay, adding that even some directors in the ministry are not in good terms with the Minister
According to him (Permanent Secretary Kanu), the Minister is interfering with the administrative work of the ministry.

Hon. Kombor Kamara in his contribution said for the committee to believe all what they said against the minister, they need to provide written document of the entire explanation.
He (Hon. Kombor Kamara) stressed that he wants to know how the Le707M was utilized by the ministry.
Hon. Amadu Kanu pointed out that there is no need for the Permanent secretary and other staff to say that the minister is interfering with the administrative work of the ministry because the minister is the backbone of that particular ministry.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children Affair, Sylvia Blyden has denied the allegation on social media, saying that she wants Parliament to invite her to explain her own side of the story.
Deputy Minister Neneh Turay has said said on social media that she will subject herself to both Anti-Corruption Commission and the Parliamentary scrutiny as she is willing to explain how the money was chopped.

“Enough is enough!! We should all subject ourselves to public scrutiny and not make as if we are clean when we know that we are not,” the Deputy Minister added.
