Despite the wet weather…Africell Embraces Salone Children

Sierra Leone biggest GSM operator, africell in commemorating this year’s Day of the African Child embraced children from all walks of life braving the wet weather.


The event which took place at the National Stadium fore court was done in collaboration with Music Makers and Children Forum Network with the theme: “Girl Child Education Is A Must”. The event brought together government ministers, children, parents together with staff of africell.
Officially launching the event, the Minister of Youths, Employment and Sports Paul Kamara sensitized the children about the work of his ministry. He thanked africell for such an initiative of bringing the children together and prayed for God’s protection and guidance for africell to continue to do more for the children of this country. The minister asked the children to join him in singing the National Pledge as a sign of pledging loyalty to the nation.
Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Dr. Soccoh Kabbia said he is pleased to join the children in commemorating the Day of the African Child. He pointed out that President Koroma doffs his hat to the children of this nation at all time that is why the president introduced the free health care and free educational system. “Without education, we don’t have a future. You are the hope of the nation and we are looking forward to you for a brighter nation,” he said.
Africell Head of Media Relation Nancy L. Joseph said it is not the first time africell is joining Music Makers to commemorate the Day of the African Child but for several years now. “Africell is always committed to its corporate social responsibility,” she said.
Ms. Joseph pointed out that for children to achieve their objective they need to know from A to Z. she encourage the children to take their school work seriously “without education you will not be able to take active part in society’” she warned.
She also urged the parents to take good care of their children and provide them with basic necessities for their upbringing through that she said they can attain successful education.
Children Forum Network President Edmond Fornah said the Day of the African Child was first announced in 1990 and Sierra Leone began to commemorate it in 1993. He pledged his Network’s commitment to work with the theme for this year for a brighter future of the children.
He advised children to focus on their academic work pointing out that the day itself is not a celebration but for one to reflect on what happen in Soweto South Africa in 1976.
The Chief Executive Officer of Music Makers Alhassan Kamara explained to the children about the importance of the day and why they commemorate it yearly. He said his organization will continue to partner with africell as long as it is in the interest of the nation.
To climax the event Sawyer Development Organization gave scholarships to Esther Conteh of Dr. S.M. Broderick Municipal School and Augustine Fonah of the Apostolic School. Children received africell gifts and music spiced their day.
