Africell takes single leg amputee sports to another level

Sierra Leone biggest and finest GSM operator africell has take the single leg amputee sports club to another level by been the main sponsor in their ongoing national sport competition in Kenema city.Team from Freetown, Bo, Kenema, Makeni and Kailahun are currently battle it out for supremacy. During the official opening ceremony over the weekend, statements were made by stakeholders in sports and africell being the lead sponsor. In his address, head of Events and sponsorship Arthur Bockery Kallon said among other things that africell appreciate the gain made by amputee since they decided to partner with them in 2007. He disclosed that africell have sport at heart that is why he said they sponsored the national team, African Nations Cup, World Cup, squash and other sporting activities in the country. He went on to say through sports peace and unity can be entails in any community. He encourages spectators to give support to amputee where ever they see them as disability is not inability. Whiles expressing his hope for a successful tournament he promises africell support to sporting discipline in general and the single leg amputee sport club in particular. Sierra Leone single leg amputee sport club Public Relations Officer, Albert Marley Mustapha described the event as a marvellous and unique one. He thanked africell for their timely intervention; according to him without africell support the competition would not have taken place. “ We have a unique partnership with africell, our partnership is the best ever, only God will reward them for what they are doing for us,” he said. He described the event as one that has help promoting unity, love and passion for the game. Mr. Mustapha described the turn out as the best ever since they started doing regional tournaments in the country. According to him such turnout proved that there is love for amputee sport in the country. The nation wild tournament he disclosed will pave the way for officials to select 20 players for the Single leg amputee sport national team. The 20 players he added will be train to participate in the single leg amputee world cup in October this year in Kenya. The participation of the regions he said will help to reintegrate amputee in the society and also expose their talents in their communities. The PRO encourages other single leg amputee to be part of the sport club that is why he said they are moving from one town to anther for them to showcase their sporting talents. The PRO also disclosed that Kailahun will host the 2014 national championship competition. In 2007 africell made a partnership with the Sierra Leone Single Leg Amputee Sport Club, since that partnership was singed the Club has being wining more trophies both national and international level.
