The Freetown City Council has for the first time in history taken a very proactive move in carrying out their mandate by closing buildings that do not have toilet facilities.
“This building exists without toilet facility contrary to the law of Freetown City Council. The environmental authority declares it closed until further notice. By order.” This was the notice placed on the doors of various shops at Kroo Town Road. This move taken by Council took has been welcomed from all sectors of society. This according to Sierra Leoneans in the municipality of Freetown is what they have been yearning.
According to some staff of Freetown City Council they have been doing some survey in the municipality to assess the health of the environment. According to them Freetown should be seen as a healthy city at all times and that they are going to ensure that they enforce the bye laws now that they have secured court No. 4.
Freetown of recent times has grown in a filthy way, due to lack of enforcement of the city bye laws. An investigation conducted disclosed that a good number of houses in central Freetown lack toilet facilities.
They called on Council not to leave any stone unturned to ensure that they continue to enforce the laws governing the city. They pointed out that through that they will breathe fresh air. The area City Council targeted are in the central business district including Kroo Town road where many a good number of shops have been closed.
Mega Cola Gives MP, Councillors Le50M For Sanitary Improvement
In a bid to improve sanitary conditions and provide clean drinking water the All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament for Constituency 119, Hon. Wuroh Timbo Jalloh and his Wards’ Councillors on behalf of the people have received Le50 million from the management of Mega Cola office at Dock Yard Kissy Freetown. Hon. Timbo commended Mega Cola’s management for their consideration, adding that the Le25 million that had been given to each of the Wards could be fully utilized to improve the drainage system in their communities. He said sanitary conditions were a serious problem for people living in Ward 415 though other parts of the Constituency were also affected, especially during the raining season. He, therefore said that, all could not be achieved at one go as he hoped the assistance would continue.
