As Abass Bundu Determines 2/3 Majority By Voice Collection... SALONE Parliament Becomes Laughing Stock Again

The chaos in the parliament of Sierra Leone was reported on international media which made some members of parliament in other legislative houses in the world laughed at the Parliament of Sierra Leone.
This was made known by Hon Abdul Kargbo of the main opposition All People Congress on local television.
He said that a certain Member of Parliament in Botswana called him when he heard that the news of Sierra Leone Parliament determining two-third majority by voice collection.
“A member of Parliament from Bostwana with whom we were in China in a conference together and they admire the representation of Sierra Leone Members of Parliament called me and he was shocked that in Sierra Leone the Speaker can determine 2/3 majority by voice collection,” Hon Abdul Kargbo explained.
This controversy about the state of emergency is still rambling on but the leader of government business in parliament presented the certificate to the President on the state of emergency on Monday 25 February.
On the other hand, Deputy Leader of All People Congress Party Hon Ibrahim Ben Kargbo said that as far as the party is concern parliament has not approved His Excellency’s proclamation of state of public Emergency because section 29(3) of the 1991 constitution provides that such a proclamation must be approved by a vote of two thirds of members of parliament present last Friday February 22.
“The party is calling on international community, civil society, the media and the general public about the move of the speaker of parliament Hon Dr Abass Chernoh Bundu by passing the proclamation by voice collection at the Bank of Sierra Leone Kingtom in Freetown,” Hon IB Kagbro maintained
He furthered that in fact, the parliamentary sitting was abruptly adjourned to Tuesday 26 February without votes being taken as prescribed by the constitution and the standing orders.
“While we applaud President Julius Maada Bio in his determination to combat sexual crimes, it is in the legislative competence of parliament to make laws for good governance in this respect of what our constitution emphatically states in section 105,” the Deputy Leader stated.
It could be recalled that for the Speaker of Parliament to be elected, the police were invited into the well of Parliament for the first time to bundle out some members of parliament, a situation which many people see as a scar in the democratic conscience of Sierra Leone.
