One of Sierra Leone’s GSM operator, Africell and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have launched the first Electronic Payment Services. The launching took place at the company’s customer’s care center in Freetown on Friday 20 June. After giving a statistic from the World Economic Forum, Africell’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Joe Abass Bangura pointed out that Africell is pleased to announced the launch of its latest innovation service in partnership with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC); that will allow students to register for examinations and check their results using the Africell money wallet in their phones. GTBank Nets Le 90.1 Billion Profit

G uarantee Trust Bank (GTBank) one of the leading financial institutions in Sierra Leone has announced a profit of Le 90.1 before Tax, Le 63.0 Billion after tax and a gross earnings of Le 184.7 Billion in 2018. Seawright Mining Company has led a fifteen man delegation from Sierra Leone to Ghana to undertake the first ever aquaculture research. The aquaculture which is a component of fish farming was the first to be undertaken by a Sierra Leone Company. The delegation comprises Seawright Mining Team, Parliamentarians, Agriculture Ministry, the media, lecturers and students from Njala University. UNESCO Takes On Memory of the World Training and Capacity Building

UNESCO in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Affairs has ended two days Memory of the World (MoW) Training and Capacity Building of Stakeholders. The two days session began on Monday 27th May and ended yesterday 28th May at the Family Kingdom. In a bid to improve sanitary conditions and provide clean drinking water the All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament for Constituency 119, Hon. Wuroh Timbo Jalloh and his Wards’ Councillors on behalf of the people have received Le50 million from the management of Mega Cola office at Dock Yard Kissy Freetown. Hon. Timbo commended Mega Cola’s management for their consideration, adding that the Le25 million that had been given to each of the Wards could be fully utilized to improve the drainage system in their communities. He said sanitary conditions were a serious problem for people living in Ward 415 though other parts of the Constituency were also affected, especially during the raining season. The Chairperson for Consortium for the Advancement of Rights for Key Affected Populations (CARKAP) Mrs. Marie Benjamin has said disclosed that Gays have the highest HIV/AIDs prevalence in Sierra Leone. Madam Benjamin was addressing the media during a media round table discussion that took place yesterday 21st May, at GGEM which was supported by the Global Fund through the ministry of Health and Sanitation. She went on to say from the survey they conducted in 2013 over twenty thousand gays are in the country and some of them are bisexual. Report reaching this medium indicated that one Isaac Williams and Ahlassan Bah were chased out of their home over three years ago when the youth discovered that they are practising bisexual and gay. Isaac Williams was later found dead alone the Waterloo-Masika Highway on the 10th January, 2019 while Ahlassan Bah is still on the run for over three years now. Isaac Williams’s death occurred when youth chased him from his hiding place along the Waterloo- Masika highway. Report from the Sierra Leone Police stated that Isaac Williams was beaten which led to his death by the youth. I have been closely monitoringviews, comments and analyses from Sierra Leoneans in relation to the work of the country's Lands, Housing and the Environment Minister Dr. Denis Sandy. Some are calling for him to be sacked, while others are praising him for transforming the ministry and the country’s land system. Issues of land are do or die issues in Sierra Leone and for one to succeed in weeding out land grabbing, you need a heavy, committed and loyal person to do that.
